Referrals from Clinicians

I believe my integrative health coaching service is the missing link between clinicians and patient when a health related lifestyle change would:

  1. Benefit the health of the patient
  2. The patient is unable to make the lifestyle change on their own

The primary focus of this practice is the science of behavior change. A referred patient identifies an area within their health that would benefit from a health related lifestyle change. Through motivational interviewing, goal setting, cultivated change talk and accountability the client begins the work to achieve a lifestyle change. Health Coach Advantage’s services are built on the evidence based integrative health coaching model from Duke University Integrative Medicine. Edelman D, Oddone EZ, Liebowitz RS, A Multidimensional Integrative Medicine Intervention to Improve Cardiovascular Risk. J gen intern med., July 2006.

My responsibility is to support the client’s agenda, goals and best interests. I provide a trusting, supporting and confidential environment for clients. I hold the client accountable for learning and actions. When coaching does not seem to be in the clients’ best interest, I discuss this with the client and provide referrals.

Currently most health insurance plans do not reimburse for health coaching services. After a complimentary consultation between the client and coach, I discuss the various coaching packages available for the client to purchase. If a coaching program poses a financial hardship, other payment options are explored including payment plans and discounted services.

Integrative Health Coaching for Clinicians

As an experienced PA who has worked in private practice as well as in a graduate medical education setting, I know the over whelming challenges facing physicians and health care providers in clinical settings firsthand. It can be almost impossible to walk one’s talk on a daily basis. The demands of practicing medicine can be in direct conflict with a physician or clinician achieving optimal health and a balanced life. Using Duke’s wheel of health and a self-assessment exercise, the clinician identifies the areas he or she wants to upgrade. Using various guided coaching strategies, the process begins for developing a personalized optimal health plan. The clinician’s personal experience with integrated health coaching many times carries over into one’s immediate family and clinical practice and can be life changing.

In addition, I offer to all physicians and health care professionals a substantial professional courtesy discount for all of our coaching services.
